Starting at a new school or college can be scary at first as you may have been at your current school for a number of years. At Birkenhead Sixth Form College we pride ourselves on the support that we offer to new students to help you settle in - remember everyone that joins the college is starting at the same time!
Before you join you will be invited to attend our New Student Conference that takes place in June before the summer holidays. The half-day conference provides you with an opportunity to visit the college again and during the session we provide you with lots of useful information about the college, so you will know what to expect when you start your studies in the autumn.
When you arrive you will be given a talk from a member of our senior management team to congratulate you on your offer and to welcome you to the college. You will then have an opportunity to complete some sessions in the subjects you have an offer in. Each session will include some fun activities to give you a taste of what the subject will involve. Of course, you will be meeting some of the teachers in these subjects and you will have an opportunity to ask questions, so if there is anything you are unsure of it is a great time to ask.
You will as well have an opportunity to meet other students who are joining at the same time - as well as probably recognising a lot of familiar faces of people you may already know.
When is it?
The dates for the New Student Conference for students joing the college in September 2012 have yet to be confirmed, but will be posted here.
Why is the New Student Conference important?
It is important that you are prepared for the move from school to sixth form studies. Not only will you get a really useful insight into what the subjects you have chosen are really like to study, but we will be providing you with important information about what happens at registration.
If you are unable to attend the conference it is important that you let the admissions team know as soon as possible on enrol@bsfc.ac.uk.
What do I do if I have changed my mind about the subjects I want to study after the Conference?
You need to give very careful thought to your choice of subjects. If you change your mind following the conference please the admissions team know on enrol@bsfc.ac.uk and these will be discussed during your enrolment interview.
If you have any questions regarding your application or the New Student Conference please contact us at anytime on enrol@bsfc.ac.uk or 0151 652 5575.
